
Granma publishes a summary of President Miguel Díaz-Canel coments during Saturday's check-up meeting to review the COVID-19 battle, following the analysis of this situation presided by the Party Central Committee First Secretary, Army General Raúl Castro.
This has been the most difficut week we have faced since our efforts to confront the pandemic began, with the most deaths; but it has also been a week with the highest number of medical discharges, which speaks to the human lives we have saved thanks to the work of our health institutions and well organized approach.
The work carried out, at the local and national level, and with the participation of the people in the implementation of measures adopted, allowed us to advance in the confrontation and, with the scientific comunity responding, the scenario evolved favorably; but unfortunately there was a turning point after the Santa Clara incident, and now the real curve is closer to the middle scenario we projected, although still below this level.
This means that measures taken have had an impact and that, if we continue in this manner, with more adherence to social distancing, with discipline and responsibilty on the part of the population, we will be able to continue controling the epidemic...
A serological diagnosis is being tested which, as results are adjusted and confirmed, will provide us with a Cuban diagnostic tool, more efficient and with greater potential to detect more cases of infection.
The production of several prototypes of protective wear has begun. Ventilators are being repaired at a rate of almost five per day, and the necessary inputs for diagnostic tests are available.
This fight is a long-distance race, the goal of which is to eradicate the disease, reduce the high mortality rate, and immunize ourselves against this virus.
This requires the coordinated effort of scientists, doctors, students, workers, volunteers, officials and leaders, at all levels.
There is a decisive factor at work at all levels: the personal - present in the actions each one of us take in efforts to save lives and to ensure that the country puts this situation behind us, in the shortest time possible.
