Another expression of solidarity reaffirms the close ties shared by the Communist Party of China and that of Cuba, a donation from the first to its counterpart which arrived in Havana, yesterday May 6, including protective supplies to support the country’s battle against COVID-19.

The humanitarian aid, valued at over $42,500, includes some 70,000 n-95 surgical masks (filtering up to 95% of airborne particles) and will be made available to the national public health system.

Chen Xi, Chinese ambassador to Cuba, expressed his appreciation of the Cuban state and people’s efforts fighting this pandemic, and reaffirmed the solidarity that has characterized the two countries’ bilateral relations for six decades.

"This new coronavirus knows no borders or nationalities. Only with mutual support can we protect each other. This is why Cuba and China both reject politicization and stigmatization of the pandemic, which has already claimed so many lives. Our nation is gradually defeating COVID-19 and we are counting on Cuba to do the same, thanks to the government’s actions and the people’s discipline," he stated, on the occasion of the donation’s delivery.

Angel Arzuaga Reyes, deputy head of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee’s department of International Relations, thanked China for this gesture of solidarity and recalled the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, which, he noted, are in excellent condition.

"At a time when the U.S. government is tightening its cruel, genocidal economic, commercial and financial blockade against our country, and hindering the acquisition and transportation of supplies needed to face the SARS-COV-2 virus, Cuba and China have provided an example of cooperation on the basis of equality and mutual respect," Arzuaga stated.
