Cuba has been and will continue to be a safe destination for tourists from the entire world, including Canadians, who have historically shown their preference for our country, that offers not only natural beauty, a rich culture, and a warm, welcoming people, but also security.

Cuba’s ambassador in Canada, Josefina Vidal referred recently to an article that appeared in the JAMA journal Neurology’s September 8 issue, entitled “Neurological damage in patient returned from Cuba,” which CTV News reported this same date. She clarified that the article refers to symptoms cited by a person more than a year ago, which were investigated in a single study, covered by the JAMA journal, along with a theory similar to others that have been expressed regarding a possible reaction following exposure to pesticides.

The ambassador notes, on the Cuban Foreign Ministry’s website, that Canadians have once again reaffirmed their confidence in Cuba as a travel destination, with the country beginning this month to welcome visitors from abroad to the island’s northern keys, where they stay in certified resort hotels which take strict hygienic-sanitary measures to protects guests and staff from COVID-19.

The first flight bringing visitors from Montreal arrived in Jardines del Rey September 4. With this trip, the tour operator Air Canada Vacations reinitiated its operations in Cuba, following the country’s reopening of international tourism.

Tourism authorities in Ciego de Ávila stated to Granma that all preparations to receive tourists had been completed in the regional airport, as well as hotels,

explaining that all personnel has undergone an arduous training process to ensure high quality service. Facilities have been inspected and certified as providing Hygienic and Safe Tourism, fully prepared to follow established protocols in all areas.

Air Canada Vacations announced that it has scheduled weekly flights to the Jardines del Rey Airport, on Cayo Coco, from Montreal, and by the end of the month, service will begin from Toronto, as well.
