The material limitations Cuba faces due to the U.S. blockade and the effects of the pandemic have not prevented the prioritization of technological development in Cuba or the promotion of innovation as key to the country’s socioeconomic dynamics.
This was confirmed during a tour by President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, last Friday, of the Innovation and Development Center affiliated with the Gelect electronics state enterprise group. Deputy Prime Minister and Comandante de la Revolución Ramiro Valdés Menéndez participated, as well.
The President noted on his Twitter account that he has seen firsthand the significant progress made at the Center, thanks to the commitment and creative entrepreneurial spirit of the staff.
Valdés Menéndez posted a tweet commenting on a workshop where new prototypes and innovative projects were being developed, and conversed with the young professionals working there, noting, “Modern tools in dedicated hands produce results.”
Gelect's annual report indicated that sales of more than 300,000 digital television decoders are projected, as well as the production of 32-inch hybrid TV sets for schools, looking toward the elimination of analog channels without affecting tele-class services.
