In honor of our culture, the very soul of the homeland, Cuba celebrated October 20, the emblematic date on which our national anthem was written by a patriot on horseback, expressing the never-abandoned idea that "to die for the homeland is to live."
On the occasion, Party First Secretary and President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez tweeted a tribute to the national anthem, as a living cry for the current struggle to defend of our culture, to "save it from the colonizing avalanche, spiritual impoverishment and everything that erodes the critical capacity and liberating thought that have always distinguished it."
As part of Cuban Culture Day commemorations, the largest national flag ever made was unfurled on the façade of the Habana Libre Hotel, an impressive 14 meters wide and 28 meters long, manufactured by the city’s Grupo de Creación Artística Confecciones Loida, affiliated with the Fondo Cubano de Bienes Culturales (Cuban Fund for Cultural Goods).
