The National Assembly of People's Power issued a forceful condemnation of U.S. policy, and the ongoing implementation of a strategy of nonconventional war against our country, during the opening of its Ninth Legislature’s Seventh Ordinary Session yesterday, October 27.
The text denounces the attempt to asphyxiate the national economy; subversion; the creation and promotion of political-communication campaigns on social networks with the goal of provoking destabilization, the appearance of ungovernability, inciting chaos and imposing a change of system.
The statement notes that the U.S. government organizes, instigates, facilitates, finances, encourages and tolerates aggression and terrorist activities against Cuba from its own territory, making use of unscrupulous individuals and groups, promoted and supported by Congress members and other authorities of that country, while condemning the call for unconstitutional demonstrations, acts of vandalism and other criminal behavior, including assassinations, with the objective of overthrowing the Cuban government, including the option of a U.S. military intervention.
Given this reality, the National Assembly reiterated its support of the revolutionary government’s decision, in the exercise of sovereignty and the law, to confront and prevent these aggressions meant to undermine our independence and destroy the constitutional order, the Revolution and socialism in Cuba.
The declaration condemns the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the U.S. - an act of genocide, contrary to International Law, and a flagrant systematic violation of the human rights of the Cuban people; as well as President Biden’s maintaining of the 243 coercive measures adopted by his predecessor, including the inclusion of Cuba on the State Department’s list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.
The legislature warns that the hegemonic mega-machine of disinformation is attempting to portray a reality that does not exist in Cuba and, with cynicism, spreading false news, manipulating images, disseminating lies about supposed persecution, torture and disappearances, that only existed in our country before the triumph of the Revolution.
The Assembly rejects statements attacking our country in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, and attempts to promote legislative instruments to further tighten the blockade, recalling that a majority of U.S. citizens support its end and the freedom to travel to Cuba, and that Cubans living in that country support the normalization of relations and well-being for their families.
The declaration condemns the offensive, interventionist resolutions against Cuba in the European Parliament, promoted by a small group of its members, and thanks the representatives who have raised their voices to denounce the double standards of those who lie and defame, while expressing gratitude to the broad and diverse movement of solidarity with the Cuban Revolution.
The text, approved unanimously by the deputies, reaffirms their determination to be faithful to the convictions expressed by our Comandante en jefe when he proclaimed: "Revolution is to defend values in which one believes at the price of any sacrifice; Revolution is modesty, selflessness, altruism, solidarity and heroism; it is the deep conviction that there is no force in the world capable of crushing the power of truth and ideas; it is unity, it is independence, it is to struggle for our dreams of justice for Cuba and for the world, which is the basis of our patriotism, our socialism and our internationalism."
