This November 7, the Cuban people celebrated the 104th anniversary of the victory of Russia’s 1917 socialist October Revolution, led by the brilliant Vladimir Ilich Lenin and the Bolshevik Party, the most transcendental event of the 20th century which opened a new era in the history of humanity.
Referring to the historic event, Party First Secretary and President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez recalled Fidel's assessment of the Russian Revolution: "No event has ever had such an impact on the minds of men, the destiny of peoples and the progress of the world."
On the occasion, floral wreaths were placed at the Mausoleum to the Soviet Internationalist Soldier, in Havana, on behalf of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), the Russian and Belarusian embassies, as well as the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples.
With FAR Deputy Minister and chief of the General Staff Major General Roberto Legrá Sotolongo on hand, Antonio Curbelo Sardiñas, head of the ministry’s directorate, stated that at a time when "the economic, political and ideological war by the current U.S. administration against all progressive governments has been intensified, it is imperative to make a reality of the dream of a better world,” advanced by the protagonists of the October Revolution.
Valery Valerievich Baranovsky, ambassador from Belarus, noted the impact of the Russian Revolution in world history and recalled the objectives of the struggle: social equality, justice and humanism.
Also attending the ceremony were Andrei Anatolievich Guskov, ambassador for the Russian Federation in Cuba; Ilham Aghayev, Azerbaijan’s chargé d'affaires in our country; officials from the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee Department of International Relations, as well as the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and the Interior.
