The 2022 school year is beginning in Cuba with 97.5% of the demand for teachers met, thanks to the incorporation of recent graduates in various specialties of the pedagogical sciences.
"Our educational institutions are nourished this year with the graduation of 6,294 teachers from pedagogical schools for primary, special, early childhood and technical-professional education," reported Education Minister Ena Elsa Velázquez Cobiella, during a press conference.
She added that new teachers will assume the most pressing unfilled positions in basic secondary education, while 593 graduates from technical courses and 1,676 graduates in Education also became available.
These new teachers, she emphasized, will contribute to complete teaching staffs, an issue which still requires special attention in the case of the capital, although coverage has improved as compared to previous years.
Velázquez reported that 10,590 skilled workers will graduate from technical-vocational schools this month, while 29,853 middle-level technicians will complete their studies in July, and in November, the first 31,874 middle-level technicians trained in three years programs will graduate. Also in November, another cohort of 8,900 skilled workers will complete their training.
Referring to the significant number of graduates, the Minister of Education emphasized that the responsibility of providing job placements and supervising their performance has been analyzed with Central State Administration, since the new work force reflects the demand determined years ago.
For the new school year, she added, attention to Pre-University Vocational Institutes of Exact Sciences and the constructive condition of educational centers will be prioritized.
March 14, primary and special education students will begin their 2022 academic year, with the reopening of 10,700 schools to serve more than 1,700,000 children.
