The national preparedness exercise METEORO-2022 concluded yesterday, May 22, at the Ñico López Oil Refinery, with Party First Secretary and President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, as well as Major General Ramón Pardo Guerra, chief officer of the National Civil Defense Staff, on hand.
Conducted across the nation Saturday and Sunday, the exercise is organized annually, prior to the hurricane season,  to strengthen the country's capacity to confront natural, technological and health disasters, taking the epidemiological situation into special consideration, this year.
As reported on the Presidency’s website, the first location visited by the President was the Empresa Cubana de Gas S.A., located in the capital city municipality of Regla, where Díaz-Canel witnessed a drill by workers responding to a simulated gas leak.
Lázara Inés Soria, general manager of company explained to the President that the workers regularly practice these types of drills since becoming accustomed to the usual tranquility is dangerous.
Díaz-Canel noticed the significant presence of women in the complex, and truly dangerous tasks, and inquired about studies of incidents which have taken place in other refineries around the country, to take advantage of these experiences.
Accompanying the President were Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz and Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces Army Corps General Álvaro López Miera, both members of the Political Bureau; as well as the first secretary of the Party Provincial Committee in Havana, Luis Antonio Torres Iríbar, and Governor Reinaldo García Zapata, among other authorities.
