
Cuba ended its participation in the IV North, Central American and Caribbean Senior Track and Field Championship, held in the Bahamian city of Freeport with a total of six medals: 2 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze.
On the last day, Cuba won the title in the men's pole vault through Eduardo Nápoles. Only Napoles and Luke Winder (USA) were able to score, according to the official website of the event. Nápoles started at 4.85, then gave up at 4.95. After a failure on 5.05, he managed to overcome that height without difficulty on his second attempt, while he managed to jump over 5.15 and 5.25 on the first attempt. Two bronze medals were won on NACAC’s closing day. The first came from Mario Díaz, in the discus throw, and the second from Davisleidys Velazco, in the triple jump.
Diaz threw the discus 62.13 meters in his fifth attempt to secure the podium. After starting with two fouls, his first valid attempt was 59.07 meters, followed by 58.72 meters and 61.12 meters in the final. Jamaicans Traves Smikle and Fedrick Dacres topped the podium with 62.89 meters and 62.79 meters, respectively.
Velazco wo the silver in the second round of jumps with 14.08, behind U.S. athlete Keturah Orji's 14.32 meters, until the final round when Thea LaFond of Dominica stretched to 14.49 and took the gold metal.
