That such zone, in the western area of the country, has the purpose of promoting the sustainable economic development of the Island, through the attraction of foreign investment, technological innovation and industrial concentration.
The ZEDM has a modern infrastructure, such as two RMG (rail-mounted gantry cranes) for the loading and unloading of goods.
The note points out that investment attraction this year in the Zone, specifically in energy and food production, is higher than in previous periods, despite the country’s complex situation and the world economic crisis.
At present, the ZEDM has 63 approved projects, including one concessionaire, 39 in operations and seven reinvestments, according to the Zone’s Business Director, Oscar Pérez-Oliva.
The official highlighted that the enclave has a double-track railway system with connection to the entire national territory, which allows the operation of up to 30% of the cargo by rail. (PL)
