OFFICIAL VOICE OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF CUBA CENTRAL COMMITTEE

The 43rd International Festival of New Latin American Cinema will take place in Havana from December 1 to 11 in the spirit of enjoying cinema in style, its organizers announced at a press conference.

There are 185 films participating this year, 103 of them in competition, and they will be screened in four of the capital's most important movie theaters: Yara, 23 and 12, Acapulco and Chaplin. The latter will host both the opening gala, with the film Argentina, 1985, and the awards ceremony on December 9.

Yumey Besú, director of the festival, declared that more than 2,000 works were received for this year's edition. The reduction in the number of participating films responds to a strict selection process based on the artistic criteria of the works, as well as the intention of the event to provide a better organized offer to the public. He explained that in previous years up to 400 films were exhibited, which meant that most of them could only be screened once.

She highlighted the participation of very young directors and a very high number of women filmmakers.

The event's communicator, Mayté Madruga, explained: "People, especially young people, have become accustomed to watching films on computers, laptops and cell phones, and we want to encourage them to leave the small screens for ten days and go see them on the big screen. That is why we are promoting the slogan "Cine a lo grande (cinema in style)."

The theoretical part of the event will deal with topics such as artificial intelligence and technologies in cinema, and film distribution. Another attractive theme will be dedicated to the work of Cuban filmmaker Nicolás Guillén Landrián.

The festival program includes three poster exhibitions, the traditional one in the Chaplin's lobby, Ghosth Posters, at 23rd and 12th, and Fabulosa Habana, at Casa Saúl Yelín, located at 19th and 2nd, in Vedado. In addition, two new printed titles of Ediciones ICAIC, the entire catalog in ebook format and several audiobooks dedicated to children will be presented.
