
After Sunday's elections, 11,502 constituencies in Cuba elected, in the first round, their next delegate, while 925 will go to a second round on December 4, informed, preliminarily, the president of the National Electoral Council, Alina Balseiro Gutiérrez.
In a press conference offered the day after the elections, she detailed that 5,728,220 Cubans went to the polls to elect their delegates to the municipal assemblies of the People's Power. This figure represents 68.58% of the electoral roll, and demonstrates the support of the people to their representatives.
He also specified that 89.11 % of the ballots were valid; 5.22 % were blank, and 5.67 % were annulled.
Of the 11,502 delegates elected, 50.93 % were reelected, and among the data it is worth mentioning that, of the total, 43.87 % were women - 44.69 % of the nominees were women - and 12.52 % were under the age of 35.
Balseiro Gutiérrez insisted that these are the preliminary results; the definitive ones, she said, will be informed within 48 or 72 hours, because it is necessary to process the inclusions of new voters, depending on their place of residence.
She emphasized that Sunday's democratic day went smoothly, acknowledged the work carried out by the electoral authorities, stressed that they complied with the informative reports and, among the territories that worked faster, she highlighted the provinces of Granma, Artemisa, Isla de la Juventud and Guantánamo.
