The Cuban Council of State, after holding its first meeting, convened an extraordinary session of the National Assembly of People's Power, in homage to the 62nd anniversary of the victory at Playa Girón.

The appointment will take place this Wednesday at 5:00 p.m., local time, at the Havana Convention Center.

On April 17, 1961, mercenary troops armed and trained by the United States landed in the area of Playa Girón, in the province of Matanzas (west), with the intention of creating conditions for the establishment of a provisional government and the subsequent overthrow of the Cuban revolution.

However, the people of Cuba faced the invasion and in less than 72 hours achieved victory over the enemy forces.

Since then Girón has been a symbol of resistance and victory for Cubans, a date on which the numerous fallen in the defense of the country are remembered.
