As part of the day in which Cuba remembers in a special way its teachers, those who ensure that the values of humanity are transmitted from generation to generation, took place last night in the capital's Protocol Hall of El Laguito, the national act of awards of Higher Education, to honor a group of professionals with relevant trajectory.

In the presence of the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, as well as other leaders of the Revolution and prestigious students, the tribute was paid to a group of teachers belonging to universities and Science, Technology and Innovation entities.
Dozens of teachers were awarded the first and second degree Frank País Order, the José Tey Medal and the Distinction for Cuban Education, according to the Presidency's website.
From the hands of President Díaz-Canel, a group received the first degree Frank País Order; and this gesture preceded the presentation, by other leaders, of the different awards granted during the day. Osana Moleiro Pérez, Doctor of Science, Rector of the Central University "Marta Abreu" of Las Villas, shared her ideas on behalf of the educators who received the awards. She mentioned José Martí and his sentence, according to which there are essential truths that fit on the wing of a hummingbird, and that, because of what they entail for the human being, teachers have the great responsibility to defend.
She emphasized that, in the present of Cuba, the university professor acquires a special connotation. It is a work -as she recalled that José Martí defined it, speaking of the tactic of love- of dew or dripping (that is to say, of constancy).
Walter Baluja García, Doctor of Science and Minister of Higher Education, recalled that Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz had defined education as an essential part of the Cuban Revolution. He recalled milestones such as the Literacy Campaign and Fidel's call to the people to read above all things.
Baluja distinguished teachers for being the architects of the battle for humanist values, and for being an inseparable part of the transforming process of socialism in the Greater Antilles.
