The 11th Congress of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) began yesterday with the demand for freedom for the Palestinian people and a tribute to the eternal Vilma Espín.
More than 300 delegates, in four working commissions, evaluated and outlined new lines of action for the internal life of the organization, attention to youth, economic empowerment and community development.
In this edition, 91 % of the delegates are employed in the broad spectrum of all social sectors. Women farmers, domestic workers, retirees and students are represented.
The balance report, the result of the municipal assemblies, revealed that it is necessary to revitalize the action in all spheres of society, and to update the functioning, in correspondence with the current times.
It is also necessary to rescue the work at the grassroots: the blocks and neighborhoods are the first line of combat against the manifestations of gender violence and the traditional vision that places women in vulnerable strata.
The instability of structures, apathy and insufficient mastery of diagnostic tools in the communities are deficiencies that must be urgently reversed in order to achieve an effective involvement of the Federation in the problems that afflict women and their families.
Presiding over the event were members of the Political Bureau, Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Party, and Teresa Amarelle Boué, Secretary General of the FMC; Deputy Prime Minister Inés María Chapman; Commander of the Rebel Army José Ramón Machado Ventura; and Brigadier General Delsa Esther Puebla Viltre.
