
SECOND FRONT, Santiago de Cuba-.In the place of Piloto del Medio, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz founded the 2nd Front Frank País García, on March 11, 1958, which in a short time became a model of political, military and social organization.

In a political act and military ceremony -headed by the first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Party in Santiago de Cuba, Beatriz Johnson Urrutia, and other political and government leaders-, a representation of the people of Mayarí Arriba gathered at the historic site to celebrate the 66th anniversary of the creation of the Front that honored the memory of Frank País.
The tribute was accompanied by floral offerings from the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz -its founder and chief-; from the First Secretary of the Central Committee and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez; from the Council of State and from the Cuban people.
During the event, workers from different sectors were given their Party membership cards and a tribute was paid to the Heroine of the Sierra and the Plains, Vilma Espín Guillois, also a combatant of the 2nd Front.
In nine months and 20 days, the Front took 31 barracks and posts of the Rural Guard, besides occupying some 2,000 weapons from the enemy, created 20 field hospitals and medical posts, some 400 schools were created and hundreds of kilometers of roads and telephone lines were built.
With the war tax, more than two million pesos were collected, which were used for the purchase of weapons abroad. The Congresses of Peasants in Arms, held on September 21, and Workers in Arms, on December 8, 1958, were events of significant importance that took place in the 2nd Front.
