The Head of State led the meeting on the balance of the work of the organization in 2023, and the evaluation of its projections for this year, a meeting that was also led by the member of the Political Bureau and Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, and the member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Party, Joel Queipo Ruiz, head of its Economic and Productive Department.
Díaz-Canel praised the strength of an institution characterized by the talent and dedication of its workers, which combines the experience of specialists with many years of work and the capacity of a youth that has demonstrated a solid preparation.
The head of the organization, Joaquín Alonso Vázquez, addressed the projections for this year, which include leading the implementation of the National Economic and Social Development Plan until 2030; leading the Government's plan to boost the economy; and implementing the Macroeconomic Stabilization Program with the required gradualness.
Priorities are to advance in the improvement of annual planning, transform the Plan's control system with a more integrated approach, and achieve an efficient management of the investment process, promoting capacity building at all levels.
Special attention will also be paid to the progress in the integral transformation of the socialist state enterprise and to achieve its effective link with the rest of the actors of the economy; and to dynamize the research processes according to the priorities and objectives of the year, among other projections.
Marrero Cruz underscored the role of the MEP as the general staff of the country's economy, as a transversal organism to the whole economy and society, he said.
We are developing in a war economy, he reflected, and sentenced that the challenge is to seek our own solutions. "The Cuban economy has its own characteristics, which requires us to seek different answers," he emphasized.
The Prime Minister highlighted the role of the MEP in the implementation of the Government's projections to correct distortions and re-boost the economy, as well as its capacity to capture greater foreign currency income from the goods and services sectors, the increase of national production, the reduction of the fiscal deficit and the projection of the socialist state enterprise as the main economic actor, among other tasks.
