To Cuba, to its incomparable lineage, to its history, to its people, to the dedication -anonymous or not- of so many women and men who have put their lives at the service of the Homeland, was the tribute this Tuesday afternoon, on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the founding of the State Security Organs.
The commemoration, held in the emblematic Universal Hall of the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, was presided over by the leader of the Revolution, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, and by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.
The applause offered by those present to welcome Raúl and the Vice Prime Minister, Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdés Menéndez -specially invited for the occasion-, both founders of the State Security and examples of that historical resistance that, from the most dissimilar trenches, have been built by each of its members, was overwhelming.
To all of them, the homage and congratulations of the General of the Army were conveyed in a letter read by the member of the Political Bureau and Minister of the Interior, Major General Lázaro Alberto Álvarez Casas.
"From silence and sacrifice, forged in daily heroism and assuming complex missions inside and outside the Homeland, generally in adverse and risky conditions, the combatants and collaborators of the State Security have been able to earn the admiration and respect of our people," the Leader of the Revolution said in his letter.
He also expressed his conviction "that they will continue to be faithful defenders and continuators of the achievements of generations of combatants who throughout these decades have been able to defeat aggressions, plans and impossibilities in defense of the Homeland".
As the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, later said, "the history of the State Security bodies is one of the most fascinating, inspiring and patriotic that can be found in the history of Cuba".
"We celebrate these 65 years at a time when the Cuban Revolution is facing one of the most complex periods in its history of struggles, and we do so aware that we will continue to win. The guarantee is, as the General of the Army has told us time and again: in the unity, ideological firmness and cohesive action of the Party, the State, the Government, the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior, with the common goal of guaranteeing internal stability and defeating the enemy on all fronts," he concluded.
As part of the symbolic day, the political and mass organizations of the country, as well as the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, presented awards to the combatants of the State Security, which were received, on behalf of all, by Brigadier General Norge Fermín Enrich Pons, head of the General Directorate of Counterintelligence.
The tribute began with the presentation of an audiovisual presentation that reviewed the history of dignity, commitment and courage of the State Security, in which members of the Political Bureau, Party, State and Government leaders were present, together with combatants from the Ministry of the Interior and the Revolutionary Armed Forces, civilian workers, cadets, former agents, founders, collaborators, as well as cultural and sports personalities.
Art, culture and history sealed the tribute, which closed with the incomparable melody of En silencio ha tenido que ser (It had to be in silence), written by pianist and composer José María Vitier, which has become a symbol of so many battles that are fought daily in our homeland
