"Girón, for the true Cuban revolutionaries, is present every day. We will defend that flag until our last breath".
So said, with conviction, the internationalist fighter and reserve captain Pastor Cantero Echazabal, at the ceremony for the 63rd anniversary of the Proclamation of the Socialist Character of the Revolution.
At the intersection of 23rd and 12th Streets, in Havana's Vedado district, the words of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz still resound when, on that occasion, crossed by grief at the farewell of the victims of the US attacks against the country's air force, he said that this was a cardinal day in the destiny of the Island, even of the continent, because "since Giron, all the peoples of Latin America were a little freer".
At the commemoration, presided over by Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Liván Izquierdo Alonso, First Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Party in Havana, highlighted how in the days of the invasion and the attacks the population, in the midst of suffering, grew in their moral height to continue in the combat and work posts, and not even the destructive eagerness interrupted the creative work, with such laudable examples as the Literacy Campaign, developed that year.
"They crashed against a people willing to die for their sovereignty and independence," he said.
To those who work in the soul of the Revolution, 81 workers and 20 cadres of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) received, this Tuesday, a recognition for the years of uninterrupted work in this instance. They are also an example of political vanguard.
"Being a Party cadre and worker entails a great responsibility and commitment to the Homeland, to the Revolution and to our people. It demands from each one to maintain a high level of exemplariness and combativeness before society, as well as adherence to the truth, honesty, capacity for sacrifice and unlimited fidelity to the principles of the Revolution", highlighted José Ramón Monteagudo, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee and head of its Agro-alimentary Department.
Also participating in the tribute were Political Bureau member Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organization, and José Ramón Machado Ventura, Commander of the Rebel Army; as well as members of the Secretariat Yudí Rodríguez Hernández and Jorge Luis Broche Lorenzo, heads of the Departments of Services and Social Sector, respectively.
