"In the midst of the special period, on the initiative of the Commander-in-Chief, on April 21, 1994, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (Citma) arises," recalled on Sunday, from his account on the social network x, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.
This Monday afternoon, in the capital's Palacio de Convenciones, took place the celebration ceremony for the 30th anniversary of the creation of Citma, which was attended by the Head of State.
To celebrate the three decades of commitment of a sector dedicated to scientific, technological and environmental work, also present were the member of the Political Bureau and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz; the Deputy Prime Minister, Inés María Chapman Waugh; as well as other leaders of the Revolution and architects of a universe that has put thought in pursuit of the growth of a country.
The ceremony was an opportunity to recognize five entities born in 1994 for their trajectory, their successes and their constant work for the benefit of society. The Agency of Nuclear Energy and Advanced Technology, the National Office of Standardization, the Mountain Development Center, the Jiguaní Municipal Archive and the Niquero Municipal Archive were honored.
Several organizations and institutions extended heartfelt recognition to Citma, including the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC); the National Union of Education, Science and Sports Workers; and the Ministry of Higher Education.
The Forest Ranger Corps, which has already celebrated its 65th anniversary, also received recognition.
The head of Citma, Doctor of Science Eduardo Martínez Díaz, dedicated the first moments of his speech to Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, for being the main promoter of science and technology in the Island in Revolution.
He also recalled the dedication of an extraordinary woman like Dr. Rosa Elena Simeón Negrín, founder of the Citma, and did not overlook all that has been done by those who are no longer among the ranks of this universe of thought.
Martínez Díaz conveyed to President Díaz-Canel -on behalf of the organization he heads- the commitment to work tirelessly to continue contributing to the development of science and technology, to make it possible for us to overcome the problems that today challenge Cuban society.
