If just a few hours ago the member of the Political Bureau and Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, said from the Main Theater of Sancti Spiritus that the city and the territory constitute a must stop for the most important tourist circuits and people visiting the country, it was not only because, precisely this June 4, it completed 510 years as the fourth village founded in Cuba by the Spanish colonization.
In addition to its historical potentialities, cultural sediment and patrimonial values, it has remarkable internal potentialities and the strength of a nexus with the only Cuban city with the presence of a French style (Cienfuegos) and with a Holy Trinity, also in the south of the archipelago, which also accumulates five centuries and ten years of increasingly surprising and attractive existence.
Solemn -as it usually happens in these cases- and with the presence of the highest political and government authorities of the province, the Assembly of People's Power in the municipality granted well-deserved symbols of the city to personalities, collectives and institutions of the territory, and memories that included with spiritual satisfaction, in addition, the Prime Minister himself and Ana Maria Mari Machado, vice president of the Cuban Parliament.
The session -and the whole program conceived against the adverse winds and tides of today- was, as Marrero evoked, also a tribute of entire generations to popular and cultural figures such as Teofilito, to the Santiago (carnival) of San Juan, to the very creole guayabera and to the colossal effort -which is still ongoing- to continue preserving the rich heritage, while advancing in territorial autonomy, food production and the preservation of other conquests in the current complex situation.
