A delegation from the Cuban Ministry of Transport traveled to Russia in recent days, with the aim of exchanging with banks in order to find feasible formulas for the environment of this sector on the island, as well as to reconfigure some projects and promote others.
The Minister of Transportation, Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, commented on his Facebook page that alternatives were explored and variants were sought for the increase of exports, with the aim of improving the complex situation.
"Through visits like these to Russia, and also from Russian counterparts to Cuba, during the last few years we have managed to finalize negotiations and projects that have had a direct impact on our country's passenger and cargo transportation," he explained.
Among the most notable results of these negotiations - said Rodríguez Dávila - are the acquisition of 400 Gazelles minibuses, more than 300 Lada cars for the cab service, nearly 2,000 Kamaz trucks and trailers, and one hundred small Gazelles trucks for the country's main transportation services.
Likewise, 250 peace buses, assembled on the island and distributed to all the provinces, 60 Gaz ambulances, 58 medium-sized locomotives, more than 400 railroad cars and the reestablishment of Cubana de Aviación airplanes were incorporated to the country's transportation system, just to mention some of the collaboration.
However, he clarified, "part of these investments are today out of service due to lack of spare parts and components, while new investments have not been made, since the country's financial situation has prevented us from making the purchases".
