The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, called to stay informed and to comply with the guidelines issued by the Civil Defense in Cuba, when he warned on Tuesday that Cuba will not be directly impacted by the strong hurricane Beryl; although, he pointed out, during its passage through the seas south of the Island some of its effects will be felt.
He also expressed all solidarity to our brothers in the Caribbean. "Count on Cuba for whatever you need," he wrote, referring to the impacts of heavy rains and winds in Windward Islands, Grenada, Carriacou Island, Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Puerto Rico.
The chief of the National General Staff of the Cuban Civil Defense, Major General Ramón Pardo Guerra, indicated some actions to face the meteorological situation.
The displacement this Wednesday of Hurricane Beryl by the seas to the south of eastern Cuba, will cause swells on both coasts of our archipelago, which, from afternoon hours, will be strong, with light to moderate coastal flooding, specified to Granma the Master of Science Elier Pila Fariñas, chief specialist of the Forecasting Center of the Institute of Meteorology.
He added that, due to the influence of the outer bands associated with the circulation of this intense tropical cyclonic organism, by the end of the afternoon and at night, precipitations may extend towards the south of the central region, where heavy rains are not ruled out. In addition, winds may reach sustained speeds between 40 and 55 kilometers per hour, with higher gusts.
