COTORRO, Havana.— A little less than two months ago, the construction of a new photovoltaic park began in the Cuatro Caminos popular council.
The work, which should be ready by the end of this year, will contribute 21.8 megawatts to the National Electric System (SEN), and will mean a substantial source of fuel savings for the country in terms of energy generation.
Early this Thursday morning, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, arrived here to continue the tours that the Party leadership is carrying out throughout the country.
According to the explanation offered by the investors to the Head of State, this park will have an annual generation of more than 37 gigawatt hours, which represents a saving of about 8,000 tons of diesel.
The project is currently in the phase of driving and setting out the piles that will support the structure of the solar panels. Some 90 workers, belonging to the Blas Roca contingent and the Havana Renewable Energy Sources Company, are carrying out the work.
Shortly after, the president, accompanied by the member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization, Roberto Morales Ojeda, and by the highest authorities of the Party and the Government in the province and the municipality, arrived at the Pradera Verde dairy farm, belonging to the Bacuranao Agricultural Enterprise.
A year and two months ago, a buffalo development program was launched here, which, little by little, has been consolidating: there are a total of 39 head of cattle, including a stallion.
The milk obtained from the 12 breeding cows that have calved is destined for the Dairy Complex of this municipality, although it is the intention of the workers of this development unit to create the conditions to start up a small mini-industry.
The buffalo program should continue to grow in the province, assured the directors of the Bacuranao Company, which, with a land base of 22,000 hectares, dedicates some 12,000 hectares to cattle raising.
In dialogue with the workers, the Cuban President insisted on the importance of continuing to recover the development of the buffalo mass in the country.
The town of Nueva Creación, in the San Pedro-Centro popular council in Cotorro, was the next point of Thursday's tour. With a population of about 2,000 inhabitants, this neighborhood has been undergoing transformation for a year, and since then several social objects have been recovered, among them sports areas, a children's park and the family doctor's and nurse's office.
Together with residents of the community, the Head of State shared ideas on the most recent measures that have been adopted in the country to reorder relations between the different economic actors.
Speaking about the results of the visit, he valued that, as in other territories, innovative solutions have been found here. To get out of the current situation, it has to be by working, producing, creating wealth, so that we can contribute to social justice among all, he reflected.
