The clock announces the end of the vacations and the beginning of the school year. With just a few days to go before this great celebration of knowledge, the smell of pressed uniforms and clean shoes is almost palpable, as is the excitement of returning to school for the more than 1,600,000 children and adolescents who are eager to see their new classrooms, meet their teachers and greet their friends from whom they said goodbye a little over a month ago.
At a press conference, Naima Ariatne Trujillo Barreto, Minister of Education, said that despite the complex economic situation the country is going through, the conditions are in place for the new school year to begin in Cuba on September 2. This time, the central ceremony will be held in the paradigmatic Che square, in Villa Clara.
Trujillo Barreto also addressed the main challenges for the 2024-2025 school year, the delivery of the study material base, teacher coverage and the situation with school uniforms.
She also described as opportune the tour of the country to evaluate and certify the preparation of the teaching-educational process in accordance with the requirements of Cuban pedagogy, which is essentially humanistic.
With regard to the supply of teachers, she pointed out that there are 156,000 teachers and professors, with a need for about 24,000 teachers, although the situation is not the same in all of the territories.
