The Havana Convention Center is a construction that impresses for its majesty, both for its physical space and for being a witness of important events throughout 45 years.
On September 3, the 45th anniversary of that founding moment, when Celia and Fidel's project was realized, its workers, together with the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, paid tribute to the history treasured in its halls.
The Center has proudly hosted more than 3,500 events, with the participation of about 1,600,000 delegates from Cuba and the world.
Díaz-Canel, in congratulating the guests, said that the Convention Center has been the guardian of a unique heritage, having hosted the most important national and international events that have taken place in the country.
He pointed out that "the impact of Fidel's intense political activity and his universal transcendence together with world leaders, intellectuals, artists, scientists, social activists, among others, can still be felt here".
He said that from that celebration of the 6th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement ( NAM), for which the Palace was inaugurated, Cuba's sovereign voice emerged as a representative of the countries of the South.
At the ceremony, in memory of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, the Center that bears his name was presented with an award for being the founder of the institution.
The same distinction was given to Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, and the Commanders of the Revolution Ramiro Valdés Menéndez and Guillermo García Frías were recognized as members of two of the organizing commissions of the 6th Summit of Non-Aligned Countries.
Yaima Valdés Martínez, director of the Convention Center, said that the greatest strength of the institution is its human resources, "the integration and concentration of specialized services provided by its workers, faithful disciples of the teachings and followers of the example and ideas of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, who described them as the rearguard of the vanguard."
