OFFICIAL VOICE OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF CUBA CENTRAL COMMITTEE

LAS COLORADAS, Niquero.— Considered an emblematic site of the Cuban nation, due to its high historical value, the Portada de la Libertad National Monument, located in this coastal community in the province of Granma, is receiving conservation actions that will provide the facility with better comfort and a more attractive environment for visitors.
The construction works -which began last August, prior to the commemoration, next December, of the 68th anniversary of the disembarkation of the Granma yacht expeditionaries- include, among other works, the total demolition of the roof and its subsequent waterproofing; the replacement of concrete floors in the areas of the cafeteria and the square; and the rehabilitation of the drainage that was obstructed.
Specialists from the Provincial Heritage Center in Granma told this newspaper that they are also working on the plastering of a bathroom, and on the repair of the roof and walls of the peasant's house (a reproduction of the hut of Angel Perez Rosabal, the first villager who collaborated with the young revolutionaries led by Fidel); although the latter will receive a major restoration in view of the 70th anniversary of the anniversary.
Yudelkis Vega Viltre, chief specialist and administrator of the National Monument, said that several organizations and entities of the territory are taking part in the renovation of the emblematic monument complex, in addition to specialized brigades of the Construction and Assembly Company (Coingex).
He also said that other constructive actions are foreseen in later stages, which will include the maintenance of the plumbing system and painting, as well as the repair, in some stretches, of the path of more than 1,000 meters, which leads to the scene of the landing, which took place in Los Cayuelos, on December 2, 1956.
According to a report of the ACN agency, at the same time, work is being done on the proposal of a new museographic assembly that aims to turn the installation into the first National Monument of the province to use interactive resources, with the purpose of offering a more attractive visit experience for the different publics.
In this regard, Vega Viltre expressed that the project foresees that visitors, through the use of their cell phones, can access detailed information about the objects and the history of the Portada de la Libertad National Monument.
