This visit has a high significance, because it gives continuity to the one recently made by To Lam, general secretary of the Communist Party and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. This was stated on Tuesday by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, when he received Colonel General Trinh Van Quyet, head of the General Political Directorate of the Vietnam People's Army.
The Head of State recalled that during To Lam's stay in Cuba, agreements were signed that strengthened the historic relations between the two parties, governments and peoples.
The Cuban leader reviewed the strong bases that interweave the Cuba-Vietnam ties, which have to do, he emphasized, with the historic bonds of friendship forged between Ho Chi Min and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, and which today are being continued by the new generations.
Díaz-Canel referred to the systematic and extensive exchanges of visits in both directions by the main leaders of the Party, the Parliament and the armed institutions.
Our countries, he stressed, have common points, and we support each other at the international level in the defense of the most diverse issues from the vision of socialist construction, because, he said, we face the same enemy.
The Cuban President reflected on the important bilateral economic and commercial exchange, and expressed his conviction that it will be expanded.
He delved into the dialogues between the communist parties of both nations, on the construction of socialism, and the important cooperation in aspects related to defense.
The Head of State said that one of the fundamental challenges that the two nations share today is how to transfer to the new generations, through political work, the heritage of these historical relations, which are also based on the combativeness and military and patriotic traditions of the two peoples.
On behalf of the high-level delegation accompanying him on his trip to Cuba, Colonel General Trinh Van Quyet ratified "the honor of being able to be in this heroic country."
"I also take this opportunity to convey to you the thanks of Comrade General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, To Lam, for the warm welcome that you and the leaders of Cuba gave him and his high-level delegation during your visit in September."
