The Isotope Center -attached to Cuba's Nuclear Energy and Advanced Technologies Agency (Aenta) - and the Bolivian Nuclear Energy Agency (ABEN) signed a collaboration agreement that will allow the research and development of radiopharmaceuticals for theranostic applications -those that integrate diagnosis and treatment- and biological components against cancer.
Dr. Gladys López Bejerano, president of Aenta, told Granma that among the main benefits of this agreement is the possibility of accessing other radionuclides for use in Nuclear Medicine, such as Zirconium (Zr-89) and Iodine (I-123), which until now have been available and which are very promising for this specialty, based on the use of Cuban biomolecules.
He added that this is also an opportunity to offer the Island's expertise in the development of radiopharmaceuticals and in the execution of clinical trials, as well as in the training of human resources and with the exchange of professionals between both countries.
At the signing of this agreement, Yeshica Crespo, Bolivian ambassador to the largest of the Antilles, Cuba has developed research in Nuclear Medicine, training to carry out diagnoses and treatments in practice to combat cancer and other diseases; therefore, joining this knowledge with our productive capacity to conceive radiopharmaceuticals, opens doors to Bolivia and the world in Health, reported Prensa Latina.
