CRUCE DE LOS BAÑOS, Santiago de Cuba.-The 67th anniversary of the 3rd Dr. Mario Muñoz Monroy Eastern Front, "born from the revolutionary conception and the offensive spirit of Fidel", as stated by its chief and founder, Commander of the Revolution Juan Almeida Bosque, was commemorated by the inhabitants of the municipality of the same name in the province of Santiago de Cuba.
Floral tributes sent by Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution; by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez; the president of the National Assembly of People's Power and of the Council of State, Esteban Lazo Hernández, and one on behalf of the Cuban people, were laid in the Mausoleum where the remains of the fighters rest, in the Loma de La Esperanza.
The ceremony was attended by members of the Central Committee of the Party, Beatriz Johnson Urrutia, first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the PCC; and Major General Eugenio Armando Rabilero Aguilera, chief of the Eastern Army; as well as other political and government leaders. Locals, who traditionally pay homage, also participated in the ceremony.
Virgen Gabriela Rodríguez Velázquez, a high school student, assured that, in spite of the complex scenario the nation is facing today, young people continue to keep their word, with commitment and loyalty to the continuity of the Revolution and to that generation that, at the risk of their own lives, cleansed the soul of the Homeland of oppression and dishonor.
The popular tribute to the Commander of the Revolution Juan Almeida Bosque was present too, as countless flowers were placed on the red granite tomb, guarded by students of the Camilo Cienfuegos Military School, in the municipality of Contramaestre.
Batista's tyranny perpetrated 320 bombings and aerial strafings against the Front's territory -which reached some 6,000 square kilometers-, but did not prevent its advance and victory in more than 200 combat actions.
