No one is going to take away the tradition of May 1st from Cubans. Neither the blockade nor the shortages and economic tensions it generates will make a dent in what has always been one of the clearest messages of this people's support for their Revolution, and of the driving force that makes us proud: unity.
If anyone still doubts it, just walk the streets and, on any corner, you can see the preparations for a celebration, because no one denies what we lack, but we have reason to celebrate, we have reason to celebrate. That is why flags are waving, and enthusiastic sign makers are drawing the visible signs on facades, workplaces, schools...
We are still two days away from the parade that summons millions of people, workers or not, because May 1st in Cuba is a thing of families, of neighbors, of the people.
However, the airs of the date are already in the air and are moving people, because that's how we Cubans are, people committed and incapable of giving up.
