Floral tributes from Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution, and from the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, were placed last Saturday in front of the Isasi Store, where 135 years ago almost thirty firefighters and other neighbors lost their lives while fighting a fire of great proportions.

The ceremony began with the traditional pilgrimage in homage to the Cuban firefighters fallen in the line of duty, led by the member of the Political Bureau and Minister of the Interior, Major General Lázaro Alberto Álvarez Casas, and with the participation of the main political and governmental authorities of the capital.

The Vice Governor of Havana, Jesús Otamendi Campos, recalled the feat of Cuban firefighters throughout its history, and the importance of continuing to join efforts in the preparation and prevention actions of the institutions and the people to prevent such disasters, with the contribution of all.

Later, at the Monument to the Firefighters, in the Colon Necropolis, tribute was also paid with the laying of a wreath on behalf of the Cuban Firefighters Corps, followed by a military ceremony and a march through the interior of the cemetery, in tribute to the fallen.
