MANUEL TAMES, Guantánamo.- In the sugar agro-industrial sector we need to break old concepts and produce not only sugar, but also by-products and electricity, during and after the sugar harvest; all this will allow the recovery of this agro-industry, and pay better salaries to its workers.
This was emphasized by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez at the Sugar company by-products UEB Argeo Martínez, located in the Guantánamo municipality of Manuel Tames.
He began his second round of visits to the eastern municipalities, together with Member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee Roberto Morales Ojeda.
At the distillery, the head of state verified the current productions and others in which they now plan to venture, such as vinegars and liquors.
The UEB is far from fulfilling the production plans, due to energy limitations and the supply of final honeys, due to the low milling of the plant.
After inquiring about several production parameters and the alternatives that are being given to the Argeo Martínez sugar millers, Díaz-Canel commented that there are many potentialities in the company. He urged them to maintain the vitality of the boilers and the turbogenerator of the plant in the summer, to provide energy to the SEN, using other biomass sources.

In the midst of sincere displays of affection, he informed the neighbors about current concerns, such as the electricity shortages, but also about the solutions that are giving light.
Regarding agricultural production and the need to increase food supply from local solutions, he pointed out that, according to what he had been informed, Guantánamo is one of the first provinces that closed the sown areas, according to the established per capita, in plantain, sweet potato, cassava, malanga and yam, a good example that he acknowledged.

THERE IS ALWAYS HARD WORK IN YATERAS
In Yateras, the visit began at the Felicidad popular council, where he exchanged with dozens of neighbors in one of the side streets of this mountainous community. The long tradition and collective commitment that prevails there has allowed, in the last ten years, and with the help of everyone, to undertake countless works of benefit to the community.
Among the new projects of the people of Felicidad in Yateras is now a bank office in a place for which a change of use has been authorized, and which will allow them to avoid traveling 17 kilometers to the municipal capital.
The community is also managing the installation of a children's kindergarten to cover the needs of the families, which have been alleviated, in part, by a children's house inaugurated by the Municipal Agroforestry Company, also visited by the president.
The head of state praised the example being set by the locals and, after addressing and explaining the country's strategies to face the current limitations, insisted that we will advance with work, talent and effort.
