It is a great satisfaction this visit of yours, which has a high significance for both countries, said the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, while talking yesterday with the President of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran, Dr. Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.
The Head of State said that a visit like this one strengthens our historic relations and demonstrates the importance that the two governments attach to bilateral ties, both in the political and economic-commercial spheres.
After recalling the visit to Cuba in June 2023 of the late President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, and his visit to that friendly nation in December of that same year, President Díaz-Canel stressed that the presence of the Iranian parliamentary delegation in Cuba is an expression of the unity that should exist between the two nations and peoples, when we are both subjected to coercive measures by U.S. imperialism. He also highlighted the possibility of following up on the economic cooperation agreements established jointly.
On behalf of Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, and on his own behalf, he sent greetings to the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and to the current president of that nation, Masoud Pezeshkian, to whom he reiterated his invitation to visit Cuba when his agenda allows it.
In a special way, he thanked Iran for its support in the fight against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on the island by the U.S. government, as well as its support for the resolutions presented by our country at the United Nations against that cruel policy, and its denunciation of Cuba's inclusion in the list of nations that allegedly sponsor terrorism.
The distinguished visitor, for his part, said he felt very honored to be in the Caribbean nation, which he considered a friendly country. We have, he said, many points in common that strengthen our ties.
Of utmost importance in the current international context, he considered the joint work between both nations to counteract the coercive and unilateral measures of the United States.
The Cuban leader was accompanied by the member of the Political Bureau and president of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State, Esteban Lazo Hernández, who later received the visitor at the National Capitol.
