The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, received yesterday Alexis von Hoensbroech, executive director of the Canadian airline WestJet.

Welcoming him at the Palace of the Revolution, the president said that "we greatly appreciate the work you are doing with Cuba", and expressed the "willingness to continue working together".

For his part, the airline's top executive affirmed that "it is an honor to be here, because for Canadians, Cuba is a very important destination".

He stressed that WestJet travels to six tourist destinations in the Caribbean island and "we recently announced a new one: Havana".

Also present at the exchange were, on the Cuban side, Juan Carlos García Granda and Jorge Alberto García Domínguez, Minister and First Deputy Minister of Tourism, respectively; as well as Erick Rodríguez, executive vice-president of the Canadian tour operator Sunwing.

According to sources from the Ministry of Tourism, this has been a brief but very profitable visit to the largest Caribbean island, which included an agenda of tours of the sites most visited by clients from Canada, both in Varadero and Havana.
