That girls, boys and adolescents meet and are listened to by the highest authorities, both of their provinces and of the nation, is a sign of sensitivity and confidence in the future, and this assembly is an example of this.
With this premise, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, attended the closing ceremony of the 64th anniversary Assembly of the José Martí Pioneers Organization (OPJM), and called on the pioneers to study happily, with discipline, responsibility, and to enjoy learning.
Only in this way, he said, will human beings have critical thinking and be able to propose and transform; "you would be more aware of the principles of the Revolution, of its legacy, and would be closer to the contribution to build the future of our homeland".
The President assured that the country has not given up on children, adolescents and young people; that is why it can continue to fully develop all their capabilities and rights, and referred to their aspirations and how to assume an integral formation.
"If we have more culture, we will have critical thinking to assimilate what comes to us, and we will be able to decide what is worth for its quality and for its values. We will begin to distinguish ourselves, not by material obsessions that nestle selfishness, vanity and alienating consumerism, but by knowledge and contributions," he emphasized.
In conclusion, Diaz-Canel said that the pioneer movement implies assuming duties, cultivating values and actively participating in the tasks of the organization.
"It also has, as a contribution, that you are willing to continue enriching the work of the Revolution. Therefore, from your perspectives, you will also be enriched," he added.
Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party and Secretary of Organization; Yuniasky Crespo Baquero, head of the Department of Attention to the Social Sector; as well as other government representatives and representatives of political and youth organizations accompanied the President. In a special way, the pioneers were also accompanied by the Commander of the Rebel Army José Ramón Machado Ventura.
