SANTIAGO DE CUBA.— As every third Sunday of June, a wreath on behalf of the Cuban people was laid at the tomb of the Father of the Homeland, Carlos Manuel de Céspedes y del Castillo.
His opened the homage that is always paid here to heroes and martyrs of the nation, fathers too, -whose remains are treasured in the Santa Ifigenia patrimonial cemetery. The main authorities of the province led the simple but moving gesture, which reflects the immense respect and love of Cubans for the one who declared all those born in this land as his children.
The people of Santiago also went to the cemetery to show their affection and -in a special way- to witness the solemn laying of flowers at the Mausoleum of the National Hero José Martí Pérez, and before the monolith that holds the ashes of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, continuator of the Revolution initiated by Céspedes, on October 10, 1868.
The day also included visits to combatants, community leaders and others who carried out important tasks in the defense of the Homeland, the Revolution and socialism.
