Increasing agricultural productions, based on the control of the areas, the improvement of contracting and commercialization processes, and the strict control so that agricultural products reach the best destination: the people, are priority actions in Ciego de Avila's transition towards food sovereignty.
The province has enough potential to guarantee the demand and supply the food needs in many of the productions, although it is known that the road is not easy due to the lack of fuel, machinery, fertilizers and seeds to obtain better dividends in the furrow.
In addition to the creation of agricultural companies, authorities and workers are promoting measures to strengthen urban and suburban agriculture, as well as organoponics and intensive vegetable gardens to supply the population.
The recovery of the agricultural company La Cuba, with the reincorporation of more than 700 workers, and the recovery of some twenty farmhouses and idle areas, to the point of producing more than 2,000 tons of food, were decisive.
The Empresa Municipal Agroindustrial Bolivia, created in September 2023, also focuses on the production and sale of food to the population, with a fundamental role in the planting, harvesting, processing and marketing of rice.
The more than 5,000 tons that it plans to sow this year on some 2,000 hectares dedicated to this crop, puts Bolivia in a position to become the first municipality in the province to guarantee all the rice in the regulated family food basket to its inhabitants.
In addition to this, the program for the promotion of oleaginous plants is underway in this province, with the planting, this year, of the first 1,700 hectares in various productive forms, as a contribution to the strengthening of the municipalities, in the transition to Cuba's urgent food and nutritional sovereignty.
