The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, received Chakil Aboobacar, secretary general of the Mozambique Liberation Front (Frelimo), on Monday morning at the Palace of the Revolution. The two organizations have long-standing and excellent relations.
In his opening remarks, the Head of State conveyed greetings to the visitor from Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution. He also sent greetings to the President of Mozambique, Daniel Chapo, whom he invited to visit the island when his schedule permits.
We are fully prepared and willing to expand and strengthen inter-party relations, as well as economic and cooperation ties, said the president at this meeting, held during the Mozambican leader's official visit to the Caribbean nation.
Díaz-Canel recalled his working visit to Mozambique in 2023, where he said he was able to appreciate the great friendship that exists between our peoples. He spoke of his visit to the clinic for diabetic patients in Maputo, where Cuban specialists work, which has a great social impact and is an example of everything we can do together, he said.
Regarding Chakil Aboobacar's visit, he considered that it reflects the strength of the bonds of friendship between the two countries and political organizations, which are based on the close relationship between Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and Mozambican leader Samora Machel.
He highlighted the context of the 50th anniversary of Mozambique's independence, the 63rd anniversary of the founding of the Mozambique Liberation Front, and half a century of relations between the two countries, all reasons to celebrate.
The Head of State thanked that sister nation for its support in the fight against the U.S. blockade and for Cuba's exclusion from the infamous list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism. He referred to the complex situation facing the nation under these suffocating policies and expressed his certainty that we will overcome it. To this end, he said, we can count on the solidarity of friends like you.
For his part, the Secretary General of Frelimo said that it was a privilege and an honor to be in Cuba, and noted that his visit was due to a decision by the political commission and top leadership of his organization.
The Communist Party of Cuba, he stressed, is not only a friendly party, but a strategic ally. We have come, he added, to give you the full support of Frelimo and the President in the face of the blockade.
