The Federation of Cuban Women (FMC, for its Spanish acronym) is defined as that guiding force that is born of love and justice. The Federation, which is about to celebrate its 65th anniversary, recognized a representation of Cuban women who have dedicated their lives to the defense of the values and principles of the nation.
At the awards ceremony, headed by Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, the honorary title of Heroine of Labor of the Republic was granted to Mayda Benigna Álvarez Suárez, for the merits of her relevant labor, political and social career.
Likewise, from the hands of the Head of State and the members of the Political Bureau, Manuel Marrero Cruz, Prime Minister, and Teresa Amarelle Boué, Secretary General of FMC, the Mariana Grajales and Ana Betancourt Orders were awarded to five and 19 women, respectively.
Also, at the proposal of the National Secretariat of the organization that brings together Cuban women, the 23rd of August Distinction was awarded to a representation of the 300 women who will receive it later throughout the country, as well as the 65th Anniversary Commemorative Stamp and the recognition of 101 cadres for their years of uninterrupted work in the Federation.
Because of the high place occupied by women in the history of the country, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, stated that "this organization was needed to represent the specific interests of women and to work to achieve their broader participation in the economic, political and social life".
May his words, together with those of the eternal President of FMC, Vilma Espín Guillois, serve as a guide to continue cultivating the imprint of a just Cuba.
