In just five days, Havana will shake up the world with the 3rd International Meeting of Theoretical Publications of Leftist Parties and Movements, as well as the 1st Granma Rebelde International Festival.
According to information provided at a press conference by Luis Morlote Rivas, an official of the Party's Central Committee and director of its magazine Cuba Socialista, the first of these events will take place between October 15 and 17 at the Ñico López Party University, while the second will take place from the afternoon of the latter day until Sunday 19 at Línea and 18, in Havana's Vedado neighborhood.
Closely linked, the events will bring together more than 100 participants from more than 30 countries, he said. The conferences will outline collective strategies, address critical issues, and promote equality, solidarity, and participatory democracy.
The Publications Meeting, convened by Cuba Socialista and co-sponsored by the Network of Intellectuals and Artists in Defense of Humanity and Casa de las Américas, will be attended by prominent intellectuals, activists, and political scientists, including Ignacio Ramonet, who will give the keynote address on the challenges posed to the left by quantum artificial intelligence, he said.
Other prominent figures, he added, include Mexican artist and philosopher Fernando Buen Abad; Cuban doctor of law, legal sciences, philosophy, and pedagogy Isabel Monal; José Luis Centella of the Communist Party of Spain; and Miguel Ángel Pérez Pirela, director of La Iguana TV. High-level delegations from China and Vietnam will also attend.
The event will host simultaneous workshops and panels on topics such as new types of fascism, political communication, and youth for a better future. There will be a presentation of books on the thinking of various leaders and the launch of the 2024-2025 issue of Cuba Socialista, with a summary of the previous edition of the Meeting.
Meanwhile, the Festival, dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Granma and Juventud Rebelde newspapers, as well as the centenaries of the first Communist Party and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, will host media experiences from across the island and abroad. Prestigious artists, musicians, and others will enliven the coming dates, explained Yoerky Sánchez Cuellar, editor-in-chier of the Granma newspaper.
For his part, Yuniel Labacena Romero, head of Juventud Rebelde, said that these activities, open to the public on weekends from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., will include several panels, such as one on the figure of Fidel, in which journalists who knew him will exchange views.
