Today marks the start of the Granma Rebelde International Festival at the Estación Cultural de Línea y 18 in Havana, an event whose main motivation is the 60th anniversary of two distinguished publications in the Cuban press, the Granma newspaper and the Juventud Rebelde newspaper, both founded by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.
The festival will run until the 19th and will combine exhibitions with theoretical exchanges, book and project presentations, panels featuring prestigious intellectuals, and an extensive cultural program.
Delegations from more than 30 countries responded to the call, launched by the Communist Party of Cuba and the Union of Young Communists, which is also attended by other national and provincial media outlets as guests.
Granma Rebelde is an initiative based on the need for counter-hegemonic communication that supports, truthfully and without manipulation, the principles of equality, sovereignty, cooperation, and new paths in the search for social justice.
The figure of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, whose centenary we will celebrate next year, will have a privileged place in both the physical and virtual spaces and in the Festival program.
An example of this is the panel Fidel in the press: the leader who wrote his own history, which, moderated by the renowned journalist and biographer of the historic leader, Katiuska Blanco, will provide an insight into that facet of his life, which led him to be considered a member of the Cuban journalistic guild.
Another significant moment of the event, which will feature performances by prestigious artists and the renowned children's theater group La Colmenita, will be the panel: Experiences of articulation for another possible world, which will be attended by prestigious intellectuals and researchers.
Throughout the weekend, the festival venue will be open to the public, with the aim of promoting interaction and popular dialogue with those who, every day, reflect Cuban and international reality from different editorial profiles and platforms, nuanced by 60 years of voice and Revolution.
