SANTIAGO DE CUBA.– The decoration of Céspedes Park and the buildings surrounding it—among which the old City Hall stands out— "is one of the most important actions being carried out here to mark the 67th anniversary of the Triumph of the Revolution, precisely in the place where it was proclaimed to Cuba and the world," Omar López Rodríguez, director of the Office of the Conservator of the City of Santiago de Cuba, told Granma.
The Cuban Historical Environment Museum—formerly the home of Diego Velázquez—and the Emilio Bacardí Museum—in its universal art gallery; bank branches, the Metropolitan Cathedral, and other heritage buildings are being revitalized, while "the finishing touches are being made to the City Hall, which is already regaining its splendor, as well as the Plaza de Marte, the Abel Santamaría Park—formerly the Civil Hospital—the Moncada Barracks, areas of the historic center, and sites of exceptional value," López Rodríguez said.
What is being done in each of the construction projects also goes beyond improving the conditions for the fulfillment of their current functions, "and the aim is for them to be ready for the Flag Day celebrations at midnight on the 31st, and the other commemorations related to the Triumph, the establishment of the Revolutionary Government, and the departure of the Caravan of Liberty to Havana," concluded the Director of the City Conservator's Office.
