Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and Minister of Foreign Affairs, expressed his rejection of the US government's intentions to carry out a massive arms sale to Taiwan.
In a message posted on his social media account, the foreign minister stated that this move undermines the sovereignty of the People's Republic of China, as well as peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region. He also reiterated that Cuba adheres to the "One China" principle and recognizes Taiwan as an inalienable part of its territory.
The U.S. government recently announced the sale of an arms package to Taiwan, with a record amount of $11.1 billion.
In response, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs adopted countermeasures against 20 US defense companies and ten senior executives who have participated in arms sales to Taiwan in recent years.
In statements to the press, a spokesperson for the Asian giant's Foreign Ministry urged the United States to abide by the "one China" principle and the three joint communiqués signed between the two nations.
He also called for an end to undermining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and reiterated that China will take the necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.
The spokesperson stressed that "the Taiwan issue is at the core of China's core interests and that, for Sino-U.S. relations, this issue constitutes the first red line that cannot be crossed."
