Guided by the principle of integrating Cuba’s public communication system with leftist approaches adapted to new technological trends, the Patria International Colloquium returns, this time for its fifth edition.

The event, dedicated to the centennial of the Commander-in-Chief, which will coincide with the anniversary of the Bay of Pigs invasion, stands today as proof that the island is not alone, despite the brutal media war of which it is a constant target.

"Despite the short time frame in which the call for participation was issued, the response has been remarkable, with some 150 foreign participants already confirmed, which demonstrates the support for Cuba and the prestige earned by the colloquium," stated Ricardo Ronquillo Bello, president of the Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC), at a press conference.

He also highlighted that this year, Patria will be unique in becoming a space for preparation and training, with workshops running parallel to the main panels, and with a virtual format that allows it to reach communication professionals across the country.

"We want to take advantage, as never before, of the presence at the event of high-level specialists, journalists, theorists, and leaders of communication groups," added Ronquillo Bello.

For his part, Daniel González, a member of the Organizing Committee, noted that Patria, being shaped by the latest technological trends in the field of communication, will feature Artificial Intelligence and its applications among its main themes.

The conference will feature a large exhibition space located at the Línea y 18 fairgrounds in Havana, where national and international media outlets, as well as other projects in the field of communication, will be able to showcase their main advances in technology and innovation.

The president of the UPEC noted that this fifth edition will officially inaugurate the headquarters of the Patria project, which aims to become a center for study, training, and preparation.

"Patria coincides with dates of great symbolism: the 65th anniversary of the victory at Bay of Pigs and the declaration of the socialist nature of the Revolution. Let us say, then, that Patria is the communications-based Bay of Pigs of our time," concluded Ronquillo Bello.
