This Thursday, the 7th Ordinary Session of the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP) continues in its 10th Legislature. Among the legislative proposals, the Assembly will analyze the Law on the Organization of the Central State Administration, the Housing Law, the Labor Code, and the Law on the Identity and Domicile System—laws that are part of the process of updating and improving the Cuban legal system.
The first day, which took place on Wednesday, included the participation via videoconference of Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution, and the presence of the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.
As part of the session, ten new deputies were sworn in to fill vacancies in an equal number of municipalities across the country, in accordance with the Electoral Law.
The new deputies are: Alejandro Redondo Ramos, legal director of the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP), representing San José de las Lajas; Rosabel Gamón Verde, Minister of Justice, representing the municipality of Jobabo; Asbel Quintana Siveira, representing Bayamo; Yoandry Águila Molina, representing the municipality of Abreus; Yury Triana Velázquez, representing Madruga; Yudixa Sarmiento Rodisio, secretary of the Health Workers' Union, representing Pedro Betancourt; William Licourt González, secretary of the Agricultural Workers' Union, representing Consolación del Sur; Jorge Legañoa Alonso, president of Prensa Latina, representing Rafael Freyre; Zulma Pila Gálvez, representing the Havana municipality of Regla; and Elvis Norys Castillo Morales, representing the municipality of Amancio Rodríguez.
The National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP) approved on Wednesday the repeal of Law No. 183, of December 2025, known as the Law for the Exceptional Reduction of the Current Term of Office of the Municipal Assemblies of People's Power. This means that the term of office for municipal delegates will remain at the five years established by the Constitution of the Republic.
It was specified that, with the repeal of Law 183, the term of office for municipal delegates will run normally for five years, and the elections for delegates and deputies will be held next year, according to that schedule.
Another key topic discussed was the information provided by the member of the Political Bureau and Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, regarding the organizational process and implementation of the Economic and Social Transformations, as part of the Government Program for 2026. The purpose of the discussion was to evaluate the actions taken since its approval and the priorities for its execution.
The deputies were also briefed on the progress of the State Budget execution for the first half of 2026 and approved the 2025 budget settlement report, presented by the Minister of Finance and Prices, Vladimir Regueiro Ale, as well as the report prepared by the Economic Affairs Committee.
The parliamentarians also approved the Agricultural and Forestry Land Law, presented by Ydael Pérez Brito, Minister of Agriculture.
