From the trenches of the Moncada barracks and Granma yacht to the construction of socialism today, Cuban women have written the most glorious pages of the Revolution with their dedication and courage. This prominence was celebrated at the awards ceremony commemorating the 66th anniversary of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), where worthy daughters of the people were recognized with the highest honors. Faithful to the legacy of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro and Vilma Espín, they continue to make the collective work possible.
Led by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, as well as by the members of the Political Bureau, Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People's Power; Roberto Morales Ojeda, secretary of Organization of the Central Committee; and Teresa Amarelle Boué, general secretary of the FMC, the Cuban leader bestowed the Honorary Title of Heroine of Labor of the Republic of Cuba upon M.SC. Tamara Silvia Columbié Matos, in recognition of her 52 years of uninterrupted dedication to the organization and her outstanding work, political and social career.
Furthermore, through Presidential Decree 1256, the Lázaro Peña Order, First Class, was awarded to Cedalia Cabrera Monte for her contribution to the national economy, particularly her outstanding work in the execution of key projects for the country, such as the first Interferon Laboratory and the Pedro Kourí Institute.
The ceremony continued with the presentation of other important distinctions: the Mariana Grajales Order to four Cuban women; the Ana Betancourt Order to 18 women; and the August 23rd Distinction to 300 women nationwide.
The ceremony also paid tribute to the unforgettable Vilma Espín, the guerrilla fighter and eternal president of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), whose revolutionary dedication and compassion wove a network of solidarity and empowerment for women.
"Fidel and Vilma, together in history, bequeathed to us the example of those who never give up, of those who live in daily action with the firmness and certainty that the Revolution is built each day with the hands, soul, and heart of the people," emphasized Zonya Rivero López, second secretary of the Cuban women's organization.
