The First Secretary of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, announced his return to Cuban radio with a new program to be broadcast on Radio Rebelde.
Alongside journalist Bárbara Betancourt Abreu—winner of the 2026 National Radio Award—and inspired by Dr. Zeneida Costales, "Criterio Compartido" (Shared Views) is born. It is a space that aims to be:
Participatory and transparent: A program by and for everyone, where the problems, concerns, and aspirations of Cuban reality are addressed with openness and candor.
A forum for social dialogue: A direct bridge between the President and the population. As Bárbara said: "Yes, he listens to me. He is the president who listens to what I think."
Featuring real protagonists: A voice will be given to everyday heroes—the people who build the country through their daily efforts.
A space for accountability: A platform for exercising citizen oversight and building consensus, based on opinion studies and direct public participation.
The President fondly recalled his childhood and his connection to radio, from his early days on a children's program in Santa Clara to his experience with "Alta Tensión" and "Criterio Compartido" in Holguín. "The best way to learn is to listen to the people," he noted, reaffirming his commitment to dialogue.
The program will also feature a very personal touch: the opening music is "Canto Arena" by Silvio Rodríguez, performed by Miguel and Jenny—members of the group "De Cuba" and children of the Cuban leader. Starting next week, all Cubans will be able to tune in to this program, which promises to be an open and transformative conversation.
