Havana carnival will once again be the main evening attraction in the capital when, this Friday, the parade along the city’s legendary Malecón kicks off the biggest mass celebration of the year.
As is customary at this event, the oldest of its kind in the country, the county’s main dance troupes and popular music bands will lead the festivities, with the latter located in designated dance areas such as the Anti-imperialist Tribunal, at the intersections of San Lázaro and Belascoaín streets, Central Havana; 1ra. and D, in Vedado; and outside the El Gato Tuerto club.
Among the groups scheduled to perform are Pupy y los que Son Son, Elito Revé y su Charangón, El Niño y la Verdad, Anacaona, Enrique Álvarez y su Charanga Latina, El Noro y 1ra Cla­se, among others, who in addition to their concerts will revive the tradition of participating in the parade.
Speaking to the press, Georgina Cortéz, director of the Provincial Center for Carnival Support, explained that this year Havana residents will be able to enjoy a parade featuring 12 floats and 18 dance troupes, including those from other provinces around the country, a clear demonstration of the summoning ability of the Havana celebration, she highlighted.
